The salwar is the most characteristic garment of lesbian women's costume. It is also called "braka" or "braki" and is the main element in the everyday and festive costume of the "brakussa", as the woman who wears it is called, from pre-adolescence until the end of her life.

The salwar suit was preserved until the first decades of the 20th century, but it is not known when it first appeared. It seems to be related to the East, in the Marmara Islands and throughout northwestern Asia Minor, the old clothing of women was the salwar suit, the breeches, as they were called, with small variations that gave the characteristic of each region.
