The Cyclades are an island group in the Aegean Sea. The islands are arranged in two parallel lines, in the imaginary continuation of Cape Sounio and Evia respectively, from which the partial distinction into Western and Eastern Cyclades arises. They constitute the homonymous prefecture of Cyclades, whose capital is Ermoupolis. Their name was given by ancient geographers because of their circular arrangement around the island of Delos.
